Mobile devices, particularly smart phones or tablets are two incredibly convenient ways to access the internet and an abundance of information to help make your life easier. Whether you are looking for directions to a friend’s house or even if you’re cooking Christmas or Chanukah dinner, your smart phone can be your best friend during your times of need. With the use of the Samsung Galaxy S5, you can easily access a variety of different tools and apps to help make your holidays easier.
I used to have bookshelves full of cookbooks, an address book filled with slips of paper and crossed out phone numbers, and shoeboxes full of photos….but not anymore. It’s amazing how organized the holidays have become, just from using my mobile device.

Cooking Applications
Everyone has tried to cook a holiday dinner on their own, and if not, perhaps this year is the first year that you’re responsible for cooking for the family. This in itself can be a stressful venture, aside from having to make sure that the house is clean and that you have enough stemware and china for everyone to use. Instead of having to rifle through hundreds of old recipes that are hidden in the back of your cupboard, you can easily download cooking applications. These apps will allow you to search through an abundance of different recipes that have been rated by hundreds of other home cooks and guests. You can choose the ones that you find to be the most interesting and have a reliable amount of information to use while cooking your Thanksgiving dinner.
My favorite: Big Oven – with over 350,000 recipes I know that there is SOMETHING I can make that they’ll love. It also includes a great menu planner for everyday meals. The downside is that if you want to get rid of the ads you have to pay $20 for a subscription. The ads don’t bother me, so I use the FREE version.
Taking and Saving Photos
One of the most important things to do when you are having a family gathering is to be able to take and save photos. As people grow older, memories fade, and if you’re the type of family that enjoys reminiscing about special occasions, it is of the utmost importance that you use the camera on the Samsung Galaxy S5 to capture the loveliest moments that you and your family share. Whether you want to document your first cooked meal or your entire family enjoying their feast, having the ability to take and save photos can help you to build lasting memories.
My favorite: While I LOVE the camera in the S5, I like having Lightroom on my camera. My favorite photo app is PicSay Pro. It’s got TONS of special effects and allows for some great photographic effects. Then again…I have about 5 different camera apps on my phone. I can’t get enough of them.
Shopping Lists/To-Do Lists
Another great benefit of smart phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 from Verizon Wireless is that you can create shopping lists and to-do lists to keep you on top of the important things that you will have to do before your family shows up for Thanksgiving dinner. If you need to make a grocery list, you can easily open an application to jot down all of the things that you need to buy. Or even if you need to remind a family member to bring dessert, you can set reminders to alert you when to call them to remind them. Lists are a great way to make sure that everything is taken care of.
My favorite: I’m CONSTANTLY running to the grocery store (and usually forgetting one or two items). I seem to leave those paper lists either sitting on the seat of the car, or back home on the kitchen counter. I recently switched to Grocery iQ as the database is HUGE – PLUS it includes the option for printable as well as online COUPONS (another thing I always leave at home). FREE
