The Sound of Our Steps Author: Ronit Matalon (translated by Dalya Bilu) Many reviewers of The Sound of Our Steps find this novel by Ronit Matalon poetic and unique. Possibly they are correct. Personally I find narrative a difficult genre to expose characterization and universality and I believe Faulkner succeeded where Matalon has failed. However, Matalon’s failure does not imply that this novel is not valuable and interesting. Did it touch me in any way? No, not really. I believe the ... continue reading...

Book reviews: The Academy
The Academy Authors: J.T. Payne and Ryan Mix I don’t often review Christian-based literature or novels. However, this debut novel by the talented J.T. Payne and Ryan Mix startles and ponders the lives of its characters and their relationships counterintuitively, as they spend most of the novel assuming that Christianity might not be what it says it can be. Original and spellbinding, The Academy presents Sylas Ernst, a high school senior at the Christian Academy, a small, elite Christian ... continue reading...
Beauty Reviews: Beenigma
BEENIGMA What’s Up with the Bees and Botox? DOES IT WORK? Beenigma is an all in one face cream from New Zealand that contains bee venom, manuka honey, and shea butter. It retails at $129.99 for 1.7 fluid ounces. It is being pronounced as “better than botox” for your skin across the internet. Albie, their son, now seventeen and sneer driven, goes off to college next year. In celebration, Connie has planned a month long trip to Europe for the family send off. So Douglas falls off his chair when Connie ... continue reading...
What to watch on a rainy day

The steamy heat and humidity is about to open up and in a couple of hours I'll be able to take in one of my favorite smells...fresh rain mixed with newly cut grass. But for the moment, I'm stuck inside staring out through the sliding glass doors at the oversized drops. The only thing to do is turn on the television. It's afternoon and nothing's on, which means ONE thing. NETFLIX! I'm alone, it's raining, and I want to curl up ... continue reading...
