When you look at a home from the outside, you always notice how well the driveway looks. When there are cracks in the concrete, leaves all over the place and standing pools of water, it looks shoddy and unkempt. But when it looks strong, new, clean, proportioned and always neat and tidy, you know that the property is worth a lot and the people living in the home must be of a higher class of person. All of this can be taken from the driveway because it’s a used piece of the property. Day in and day out you drive on and off it, so it’s difficult to keep it primed. All the more reason why if you were to keep it tidy and strong, it would be a mark of good homeowner character.
Without a pressure washer?
No, you don’t need to shoot high-pressure water. You can clean your driveway without any kind of equipment. You will need…
- A deck brush. The thick and hard bristles will get rid of debris and dirt that is very stubborn on the surface of your concrete driveway.
- A broom to gather leaves and soil from the garden, moving them to one side to be collected.
- Sawdust so you have the ability to clean up any oil leaks or other kinds of liquids such as car soap.
First, you need to use the broom to move all the loose debris to one side and collect it with a dustpan. Then use the deck brush to get rid of those nasty and rough things like bird guano, chewing gum, loose tar, any kind of paint stains, and hard soil that has dried. Then use a hose to give it a good clean. When it dries, pour sawdust over the driveway and then use the two brushes again to get rid of stubborn spots of motor oil or petrol.
Sunken slab
Concrete slabs are the main material which driveways are made from. However, after 10 or 15 years, they tend to sink. This is because the soil underneath the slabs tends to move or the concrete underneath moves due to the water flow from the rain being absorbed into the ground. Speak with a Foundation Repair Company who can not only lift your concrete slab but they can repair and replace them entirely. If you need a crack to be fixed, they can add new concrete to stop it from spreading. If you just want a new surface layer, they can add an even and smooth layer of fresh concrete.
Snip and pull
Any overlaying grass or plants over the driveway needs to be cut to size to create a smooth borderline. If you have any weeds that are poking through the gaps in the slabs they should be killed using nothing other than bleach and weedkiller. This should be done every 2 or 3 months to keep on top of things.
A great driveway will always draw looks of admiration. Everyone knows how hard it is to maintain an area that is constantly being used. But if you can, it will make your home stand out from your neighbors.
