I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Influence-Central for Virgin Mobile. I received a sample device to facilitate my review and a thank you item for participating
WHAT IS THE NEWEST TALK IN TOWN?
It’s the Virgin Mobile CUSTOM CELL PHONE! NOW you can be the parent you want to be while your child can enjoy a customized parental control cell phone!
The Review Broads are always on the lookout for the best and the brightest of devices for you and your children. What to do when your eight to twelve year old wants a cell phone? Our kids are all about technology today. At 6, 7, 8 they want to be KOOL. They want a new cell phone for Christmas or Hanukkah. And yet, as parents, we are in a bind. We want our children to be able to contact us in an emergency, to enjoy the internet, and to be SAFE.
I know I want to know what my child is exposed to and what is exposed to them, and kids all know and love the internet and cell phone technology, much better, sometimes than we do. What is the price of safety and peace of mind, while still allowing your child to have a phone? Virgin Mobile Custom has designed what I think is the best cell phone ever for juvenile users and with the holidays coming, what a great gift idea!
What is it?
Available only through WALMART, the Virgin Mobile Custom cell phone creates the opportunity for parents to control all aspects of their children’s cell phone usage, from setting certain times that they can use certain apps, to how many texts or phone calls allowed, to whom they can speak with, to allow or disallow their use of Google, the internet, Facebook…a dream come true? I think so. AND you create your OWN plan and spending as you add different options, with NO CONTRACT and a monthly rate that you can change every month as your needs, and those of your child’s changes.
I received the Virgin Mobile Custom LG Pulse ($79.99 ONLY sold at Walmart). The cell phone is also available in two other models, the LG Unify ($129.99 ONLY sold at Walmart with 16 hours of talk time), and the ZTE Emblem ($59.99 ONLY sold at Walmart).
I have only owned a cell phone for one year, and I am still learning how to use it! Therefore, one of my first concerns on the LG Pulse was how easy it was to set up, apply different controls, and change the plan from month to month. It was by far the easiest phone I have ever set up! With text instructions through every stage, in 15 minutes I was ready to go and handed the phone over to my 11 year old Libby. My favorite feature: all of them!
What can I control on this phone?
Quick answer: everything! The Share Minutes feature allows you to insert the names and minutes you want to allow your child to share with. The Line Details allows you to turn Facebook on or off, and to enter which school days and what times of the day your child is allowed to use certain features. If you only want your child to use Google or Facebook when they are at home, after dinner, you can set that time allowance so you can supervise. All social apps are included: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and music apps such as Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio, etc. You cal also allow for international calling, Google Maps and other apps that are available online.
What does it cost me?
One line starts at $6.98 per month. You can add up to FIVE lines. As you add usage to the phone in the form of texts, talking minutes, etc., you can see the cost as it pops up on the usage screen and know what you are paying. You can change your plan as you go along, allowing or disallowing your child different features. THIS cell phone plan allows YOU THE PARENT to “build, share, control and manage how your child’s phone is being used. There is also a free feature that allows you to make changes on your child’s phone from your IOS or Android devices.” And the Virgin Mobile website makes it very simple if you get stuck with set-up. The website has directions and photos that are so easy to follow! Anyone can set up this phone and it is fun!
WHAT DO I THINK?
Libby and I set up the account on her phone in seconds and it was very easy. When I went to set up the plan, we talked about whom she wanted to speak with and how many minutes of talk and text I could afford. When I set up the controls on the internet, since Libby was involved, it was a piece of cake. This cell phone is extremely good with instructions and it is extremely user-friendly. We clicked from one feature to the next as we talked about what she and I wanted on her phone. I think this is one of the best cell phone I have ever come across, with all the features that I have on my iPhone BUT under MY control as a parent. I LOVED IT!
