This review is long overdue – the reason being that I can’t stop reading every page, then going back to read another page, then going to the store, book in hand, checking out food ingredient lists.
That’s the true story. This is one colossal compendium of information that if you DON’T read you will regret. The foods we eat – I can tell you that my grocery bill has upped itself drastically in the last year as I progressed from grocery store to organic store. Was it worth it? According to the Reader’s Digest Foods That Harm Foods That Heal, that is simply a small step to eating the way we are meant to eat.
The Reader’s Digest Foods That Harm Foods That Heal has all the right things going for it. The repertoire is huge. The alphabetized list of ailments, conditions and diseases and the foods that you should eat to compensate and assist in healing is my favorite. From Acne to yeast infections, the list is comprehensive and so easy to read that your teenagers can start reading up on things to eat to counteract infections, etc. The foods, listed also alphabetically from a-z started with acorn squash and ended with zucchini. And the reading is intensely personal and compelling, with the newest and latest data on every single item listed. There are also articles and special features throughout the book, on caffeine and its positive and negative affects, how to eat and where to eat when traveling so as not to fall into the fast food trap, superfoods, snacking – this is by far the best reference book on food that I have ever come across. And it reads like a novel. Absolutely wonderful, and I can’t put it down!
I suggest that every reader stuff this in your teenagers’ backpacks, buy 12 copies and give them away for birthdays and weddings, and then keep another 10 copies in the house because all your friends will steal Foods That Harm Foods That Heal. Bless them! It’s a given.
There is only one way to review a book of this magnitude: keep it short and sweet and NEVER lend my copy to ANYONE I know or I will never see it again.
