Mia & The Migoo

Girerd is the famous producer of The Secret of Kells, and Mia and the Magoo magically portrays an astounding 500,000 hand painted frames of animation. The effect is of the Impressionists, Van Gogh, Monety, and Cezanne and with all the beauty of the film, it does sometimes distract from the story – but I had no complaints, as beauty is its own reward – for me at least. And hopefully for our children.

Mia is visiting her mother’s grace when she sense something to come. She suddenly knows that she needs to find her father, Pedro, as she senses him trapped on a very far away tropical lake many miles away. She ignores her grandmothers because she simply knows that he is in danger. Mia knows she has to find him. And with her father, in the midst of the lake, stands the ancient Tree of Life, guarded by forest sprites called the Migoo. They are shape shifters. The Migoo decided that they needed to protect their spirits and the Tree of Life from the character named Jekhilde on the island. When Mia finds the Migoo, after a long journey, she and the Migoo decide to fight together to save her father and the Tree of Life itself, as the Tree of Life keeps Earth alive.

This beautiful and majestic rendition of myth for children and parents alike, with succulent scenes that defy the cartoonish effects of some of the Disney movies, is creative although sometimes a little convoluted.
