We can make a very big deal out of our wedding days. It’s the time when we look and feel like a million bucks, surrounded by people who love and care for us the most, with a catering plan that we handpicked and a DJ to get us all grinding on the dancefloor. All in all, it can be a lot of fun! It’s a time to celebrate, and a time to make sure we never forget!
But if you’re someone who hates the idea of a big, white wedding, dressed up in a meringue dress with all your friends and family to see, actually saying yes to your partner’s proposal can seem daunting. So we’re going to need a change of scenery, and to make sure that any wedding you go through has a casual theme to it – it’s your big day, you dress it up however you want!
It doesn’t matter what your mother or your sister says, and don’t even worry about the in-laws. If you want a casual wedding day, that’s exactly what you’re going to get, and here’s a couple of tips on how.
Don’t Worry About the Dress
Sure, you want to be looking your best on one of the best days of your life, but you don’t have to put that much time and effort into finding your wedding dress. After all, you can buy big and white dresses from any high street retailer, as well as find the most convenient wedding dresses online! So make sure you’re shopping around for something you like, but don’t go out of your way to find something that your mother would be proud of – you’re out to avoid that kind of stress after all.
Second hand dresses can look amazing, and they’re usually well taken care of by charity shops or thrift stores, as they’re popular items that need to be in good condition to be sold. Feel free to take your chances here; you can find a dress that has a whole lifetime of prestige attached to it, but it has a much lower price tag and you don’t have to break the bank for it.
Send Out Some EVites
You don’t have to spend ages and ages handwriting out all the invitations to your big day, not when we live in a digital world with instant communication available whenever we need it! Either you can make one invitation, take a photo, and then send it out as a group text to all your friends and family, or you can use an app to make one and email it around that way.
Find a Field (or other unusual venue…)
There’s a lot of wedding venues out there, and if you hate the idea of having to sit down in a church for 6 or so months to make sure you’re eligible to get married there, you’re going to have to take your pick out of the thousand other choices you have! Maybe the registry office just isn’t enough for you either; well, now’s your chance to make your wedding venue big and bold, whilst still keeping it simple.
So, if a friend of yours has a big house with a nice garden, this could be your chance to get married in that kind of special, private space. Or you could simply up end everyone and take them out to a nearby field, with sheep in the distance and hedges all around you, and pronounce your vows to your partner underneath a towering Oak tree. You can be really creative here, and you’ll feel a lot more casual because of it!
Get a Buffet
Now for the after party or the reception. If you don’t want to come up with a menu, with everyone having set meals for the dinner, you can simply lay out a buffet they can pick and choose from.
Sure, your aunt is lactose intolerant, and your brother has a nut allergy, but you can set out seperate food stuffs all around the room. Or you could simply order something in when you’re finished getting married, and have pizzas and tacos and Chinese delivery all on hand for people to dip into!
Now’s your chance to have an amazing, and personal, casual wedding, as more and more people are putting aside the traditions of the past. Do what you want with your big day; hope ideas like these inspired you to do so!
