I’d like to take a moment and welcome guest reviewer Broad “S” today. Broad “S” will be helping “A” & I out every once in a while. I think you’ll LIKE her side of the review a LOT!
Broad “S” and I (Broad “Z”) were recently sent a couple of photographs of BUTTERFLIES to adorn our naked walls. Since we were able to choose what we like BEST from the Cool Butterflies butterfly shop we’ll be talking about two very different photographs.
Broad Z: I LOVE black and white photography, so I chose the photo of a PaperKite butterfly. It’s the only one that I could find in black & white in their gallery.
Broad S: Not me. I’d rather surround myself with color. I need to perk up my house a bit. Especially since winter in New England can be kind of dreary. I think I went in the COMPLETE opposite direction than you did “Z” because I got Dinner for Two
Broad Z: WOW – you sure did.
Broad S: Deborah from the gallery also sent a second print for me called Distracted by Butterflies.
Broad Z: Oh I almost forget, she sent me a second one too….darn, what was it called? Oh, I know, it’s called Imperfect- Incomplete – Impermanent
Broad S: So, what did you think?
Broad Z: It was interesting. I’m usually not the butterfly type. You’re the nature girl. I wouldn’t be caught dead in hiking boots. I thought it was very distinct you know?
Broad S: In what way?
Broad Z: Well, the butterfly was very SHARP looking against a kind of muted backkground, the photographer did a LOT more than just take a photo and print it up. I appreciate that. I thought it was almost a little FUNKY (and you KNOW how I LOVE thinks that are just a little different).
What was yours like?
Broad S: I was a little shocked when I received it actually?
Broad Z: Why?
Broad S: It is SO stylistic (is that a word???).
Broad Z: You can make up words here, as long as we can figure out what they mean…
Broad S: The colors are SO VIVID that it’s almost science fiction looking. I wish that I knew what process the photographer used to develop it because It had the most beautiful colors (almost cartoon like) and it looks more like a lithograph than a photograph.
Remember in the 60’s when we used to have blacklight posters and they were psychadelic looking? It reminded me of that.
Broad Z: I’ll have to see it the next time I’m over your house. Have you been trippin again?
Broad S: Not since Woodstock honey. Oh and you’re welcome ANY time.
I wanted to tell you a little about the second print that Deborah sent me, Distracted by Butterflies, because I don’t think that I saw it when I first looked through their catalog (even though it’s definitely in there). I’m SO glad that she thought to put that in, because it’s SO ME!! I really like that one.
Broad Z: Oh that’s right – the second one that I received is going into my OFFICE to remind me that I don’t have to be PERFECT.
Broad S: Wait – you think you’re PERFECT?
Broad Z: You know what I mean.
Broad S: I do, you mean that you think you’re perfect. Hold on, I’m laughing so hard that I’m going to be sick.
Broad Z: Stop it – back to the butterflies.
Broad S: LOL – ok, I’ll laugh at you on the phone later.
Broad Z: I don’t think you have to be a BUTTERFLY lover to like these photos, as they’re definitely more like pieces of ART rather than nature photographs.
Broad S: Judging by the two that I received, I’m going to agree with you “Z” – if I saw this in a gallery, I wouldn’t even realize that it’s a photo.
Broad Z: Well, thanks for joining me in doing this review today “S.” It was almost as much fun as hearing about your dates lately.
Broad S: Shut up! I still can’t believe that you think you’re perfect.
