Knowing what to take when trying to lose weight can be very stressful. I know it changes from person to person but I do have a bit of experience with this. A few years back I found myself crazy overweight and lost almost 200 lbs, every time I would hit a plateau I would reassess my supplement intake and add and remove vitamins to shock my body. I also use different workouts to shock my body into losing more weight but it was more about the supplement consumption that could put me over the top.
There were 4 major ingredients to my success:
MultiVitamin: Multivitamins are a combination of the nutritional minerals and vitamins that help the body function. Each of our organs has very specific needs and each vitamin and nutrient can assist in any manner of your bodies functionality. By making sure that all the nutrients are present, the body can function smoothly and in an effective manner. When dieting you may not be getting all of the nutrients that you need multivitamins to support these function. Also, they help control your appetite. If you’re low on certain vitamins or minerals, it’s possible your appetite can be affected, causing you to eat more in order to replenish those nutrients. Taking a multivitamin, therefore, could help you manage your appetite.
CLA: CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a naturally occurring fatty acid, similar to an omega-6 fatty acid but with health benefits for weight loss. It’s one of the “good fats,” present in foods such as beef and dairy products, but only in low levels. It is best to take CLA in pill form because getting the recommended dose for weight loss a person would have to eat 2 pounds of beef, or 1 pound of Cheese (challenge accepted) or drink 100 ounces of Milk (barf city).
L-Carnitine: L-Carnitine is a type of amino acid that benefits energy levels by transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria where they can be burned up and used as fuel. For this reason, many take carnitine as a weight loss supplement to help bump up fat burning. This is the secret ingredient in my weight loss journey because it does so much: at the gym, it increases endurance and prevents muscle damage, at home (passively) it enhances weight loss, amps up fat burning and regulates blood sugar and at work, it boosts brain function.
CBD capsules: CBD helps two-fold, it helps relieve stress and it also helps weight loss. Without getting too technical, we can say that CBD restores the body’s homeostasis. This means that it returns the health-balance to what it needs to be, working in either direction. This is why those that are obese or overweight have an increased metabolism and reduced appetite when regularly using CBD. The use of CBD for stress relief is a growing trend. While research is still very preliminary, CBD is thought to ease anxiety by helping the body process serotonin, a hormone, and neurotransmitter that plays a role in regulating emotions. The process by which this occurs is thought to be similar to that of serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), a class of anxiety and depression medications. Also, try MedsbiotechCBD as it is pretty legit.
Some gym tips for weight loss:
Have a great playlist for weight lifting. I try to listen to high BPM music as I lift because it really helps me to move to a fast beat. This also helps with long stretches of cardio. Regular listening at the gym typically includes:
- The Roots, Against Me!
- Benjamin Booker
- Hot Water Music
- The GetUp Kids.
Here is how I format my workouts:
Cardio: 30 min – I watch half a program that Allyson does not like while I jog on the treadmill
Weights: 1 hr – Work slow and push myself – one day back and biceps, one-day legs, one-day chest and triceps, one-day shoulders and core, then repeat.
Some eating tips for weight loss:
I know it is super redundant but tracking everything you are putting into your body is a great starter. I find that I am way more strict about what I eat if I am recording in a diary. Chicken is also your best friend you can prepare it 101 different ways. To meal prep, I would grill pounds upon pounds of chicken and eat it with some Guac and Salsa and a veggie for lunch every day. At dinner, I would have 4-6oz of steak or pork with a veggie. I also keep low cal dairy-free “ice cream” in the house if there is some sort of cravings after dinner for a treat.
I know that this is all such a grind but if you get on a roll you won’t want to stop. The right supplements 100% help you with your regimen. This is what works for me but not necessarily for everyone else.
