Broad Z: Well, we’ve already reviewed two of CBS’s NEWEST shows, but I think I’ve seen this one somewhere before!!!
That’s right, Medium has JUMPED NETWORKS and is NEW to the CBS lineup this fall. I’ve been watching it on the “other” network, so I already KNOW that I LOVE it. What about you “A”?
Broad A: Reviewing the fall opener of “Medium” was fun for me – I don’t watch much TV, just “American Idol” on Fox. This CBS primetime show featuring Patricia Arquette as Allison DuBois, a research medium, her husband Joe (Jake Weber) and her three children, Ariel, Bridget and Marie proved a stunner. Allison works as a consultant for District Attorney Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval).
Broad Z: Well, since this is all new to you (you’re SOOOO not a TV GIRL), why don’t you tell everyone a little bit about it.
Broad A: Sure “Z” – We got to watch the finale from last season. Our readers are getting to see a clip of the premiere right here on The Review Broads. I can tell you a little about how it left off… ‘Bring Me The Head of Oswaldo Castillo,’ Dubois dreams of a drug cartel assassin, Oswaldo Castillo, whom the D.A. is attempting to find. Castillo has murdered an undercover agent, Detective Louis Ferres (SPELLING?) and left his body in five cooler boxes covered with dripping blood. The undercover detective had infiltrated the cartel is now more than dead. Dubois’dreams envision the assassin Castillo coming after her own family if she does not find him first. The tension created by her husband, Joe, as he refuses to submit to Allison’s demands for the family to go into hiding is a wonderful offset to Arquette’s brilliance as an actress. Joe encourages Dubois to do her job and find the drug assassin.
Broad Z: I remember. This is great. Now people who are NEW to the show can catch up on what they’ve missed….sorry to interrupt….
Broad A: The show races through more of Allison’s dreams, as she sees herself having a brain tumor, and a year later facing the drug cartel’s doctor, Dr. Cruz in Mexico after her family has been murdered. Then she sees herself a year later killing Castillo and FBI agent Munoz, now working with her on the case, as he reveals himself as a cog in the wheel of the cartel. The in and out of dream sequence, flashbacks, and reality make for a dynamic show.
Broad Z: I found the whole thing rather confusing. I really couldn’t tell what was real and what was in her head. I seem to have a problem with movies and shows that do flashback scenes. Either I’m not very bright or I can’t keep track. It was a VERY intense episode and I found myself getting a little stressed out, as if I were in her shoes.
Reality time: Allison delays surgery for two days for the last dream – Agent Munoz is arrested, and Castillo found before anyone dies.
Broad A: In the last frame, again reality time, we see Joe and the D.A.poignantly waiting in the hospital after Allison’s brain surgery. She has had a stroke pre-surgery and is in a coma. The light dims. Black frame on screen.
Broad Z: What a way to leave us hanging HUH? I can’t wait to see how they’re going to start this new season, with SO many questions unanswered.
So, seeing that this was your first EXPOSURE to Medium, what did you think?
Broad A: I found the casting fantastic, the passionate Allison and the cerebral
Joe. I loved the imaginative handling of a psychic medium working for law enforcement while going through the throes of a family she puts in danger with her gift.
Broad Z: So, do you think you’ll watch it this season?
Broad A: I am now a fan of “Medium” and CBS, and will turn on my TV to watch this intricate and amazing show.
An aside: I might have to give up reading a few books, but the versatility of the show has me hooked! I loved it! Broad A
My take: Mr. Z never misses this show, which means that i never miss it. Broad Z
