Boutique OOAK Harnesses & Dog Coats that Truly Fit Your Dog!
You know how it is.
Single review mom. Most creative vice – facebook recipes. Freudian transference: to her soul mate. Mine: Clem and Bella my dachshunds.
HOWEVER, when you are a blog diva, you have to be aware of all the fashionista trends and quirks. Since Clem is male and I only have to order him pants to keep him from frothing and doing-that-humping-thing over Bella, and I now have a little girl puppy, the order of the day is this: Bella weighs 8 pounds and needs harnesses. Collars cannot be used with a leash on small breeds. Bella also needs warm, lightweight coats, as hiking along the Wasatch mountains requires strong lungs and a warm coat – she is in the SKI BUNNY, and although she would love a pair of UGGS, I have no recourse but to buy her fashion statements online. So, obsessive compulsive Mom that I am, I have spent over $1,000 trying different companies for coats and harnesses. From Pinkaholic, to Etsy, to FoggieMountain to Zoomies New York Dogs, I have tried to put Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua to shame. AND I FINALLY FOUND THE GOLD MINE, the harness at the end of the rainbow, the BEST FITTING small breed harnesses and coats that show MY good breeding and elegant taste. In the park, the oohs and ahhs as Bella prances through the snow and Clem attempts to mount her are finally all mine – Bella has made it to The Dog Show Princess of Fashion.
Dare I share where I purchase her delightful frocks?
Knowing that my readers – well some of them – adore their pups as I do, and really want to be in the know – I decided to write a review pointing dog owners to the mother lode of doggie fashion: and made to measure is the way to go!
I came across Dawn Keshner’s Simply Spoiled by Grandiva Designs on one of my dachshund facebook groups. I saw one of her harnesses and Bella swooned when I tipped her nose into my computer for her to view the harness of her dreams.
Bella the dachshund puppy is a rebel. A noncompliant, rock chick who “adorbs” the world of chic fashion and stiletto silhouettes. And she is picky on fit. A layer or two of Velcro in the front and Bella refuses to wear the harness.
- A harness has to fit correctly on the neck in order to feel comfy for the dog. The harnesses I purchased came down too low on the neck for Bella to walk or run with comfort.
- The cut of the leg has to be very high or the fabric cuts into the leg just before and under the belly. Harnesses and coats are an art form! With Simply Spoiled, Dawn makes the harness high on the leg and as you send her measurements, the fit is perfect.
- Dawn sews the front in place rather than placing Velcro, so there is no discomfort for the dog. The pattern is what makes the difference, and Dawn’s pattern is extremely comfortable for a dog to wear all day long.
- Safety. The harness has to stay on firmly.
- If you want the harness to go OVER a dog coat, this must be specified in the measurements.
These are essential points.
THIS WAS THE ONLY HARNESS BELLA EITHER DIDN’T GET OUT OF HERSELF or WOULD WEAR of about 10 harnesses I bought her…chink chink chink. I have found that high end ready made dog fashions do not fit. In the end, if the won’t wear the outfit or harness or coat, your money has been badly spent. How many items do you have in YOUR closet that “just doesn’t feel right?” HMMMM. Another story, another time.

I have always loved to dress my dogs, and for doxies, it is hard to find things to fit their awkward shape; long body, large barrel. A coat in the winter is simply a must. I started sewing coats for my 5 dachshunds because the coats that you buy in stores are so
