I was recently sent New Again by Taking Back Sunday for review from their PR agency. Since it’s been a few years since their last CD release, I was curious as to what direction this band had taken.
New Again comes across as good solid music that will appeal to a younger audience. No longer having a hardcore sound, Taking Back Sunday has produced a very audience driven, danceable CD. With lots of handclapping breakdowns and well produced drum tracks, you’ll find this album to be easy to listen to.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a “hook” friendly CD. There aren’t any songs that have a chorus that will have you singing along (unlike some of their previous recordings).
For new listeners New Again is a GREAT GATEWAY to the hard rock – emo- punk – metal sound of Taking Back Sunday. I found the drum tracks to be so well produced, that I felt like I was listening to a live show. This band would be a FUN concert.
Although I liked the track “New Again” best of all, I can see “Sink Into Me” being their hit single.
Favorite Tracks:
- “New Again”
- “Sink Into Me”
Overall: A step in the RIGHT direction for pop, a slight step back for emo.
You can purchase New Again on Amazon.com for $11.99
Check out Taking Back Sunday’s website for concert listings and more.

Welcome to the Broads Ben. It's nice to have a male point of view around here in the Hen House. Oh and a YOUNG one at that.
