I recently saw a gorgeous leather handmade cuff on Skimbaco Lifestyle (Katja Presnal’s lifestyle blog site) and I HAD TO HAVE IT. I always buy my jewelry at Sundance – we are lucky enough to have an outlet here in Salt Lake City. I actually worked there when I first moved here for a short time, and the company, formed by Robert Redford in 1969, makes sure that its employees are happy and well taken care of. It was an immense pleasure to work there. And I love artisan handmade one of a kind jewelry – it states who I am, and it supports the arts in a small way. I have never liked jewelry store jewelry – I am independent, creative and strong and I want my jewelry to say who I am – that is the only reason I wear jewelry at all. More than a decorative embellishment, my jewelry allows me to see beauty on my wrist or around my neck every single day – and reminds me of all the beauty that surrounds my life. Corny, but true. AND it reminds me to write every day, to weave my craft as an artist.
I digress – as always! When I saw DeAnna’s handmade and totally unique cuffs, that are made to order, I ordered one immediately. Made of recycled cowboy motif belts, matted bronze or silver plates, and hand twisted leather, these cuffs say more about me than any jewelry I have ever owned. Like Jes MaHarry, DeAnna’s jewelry proves top quality. And very much like Jess MaHarry, my cuff tells my story embossed on the beautiful bronze plate sewn onto the belt. But instead of “Dream” or “Believe” DeAnna’s cuff added my personal love story on its bronze face, with Love and Friendship emblazoned on the front. It reminds me daily to be kind to the love of my life – and to be kind to myself. Such an artistic reminder – I love this cuff!
DeAnna has another wonderful obsession – she creates her art for CHARITY. I believe as artists we are healers, and DeAnna has chosen a life which not only heals through the beauty of her jewelry, but she assists others in her art. What could be better than that? I hope that all of you will appreciate DeAnna’s art as much as I do. Because she – and her work – are extraordinary! Thanks DeAnna for allowing me to wear and love my bracelet!! DeAnna Cochran has a mission, to tell the story of hope and healing through her work. Designs are eco-conscious and charity focused. Utilizing reclaimed metals and re-purposed leather collections benefit several non-profits. Her love of design began with a degree in metalwork and jewelry design and after a 15-year detour with a successful corporate career as a global quality consultant in the technology industry I returned to my passion following the loss of my son. Born premature and living less than one month she was touched by the experience in a profound, life changing way.
