As you all know, Saffron Road Food is one of my favorites in the summer as well as all year long. When I long for an ethnic treat, with all natural content, I always reach for Saffron Road when I go to my local Whole Foods store! And when I found out that Saffron Road has come out with a completely new line – succulent sauces that you simply pour over your choice of ingredients – I went bazonkers!
“Saffron Road knows that great food begins at the farm, so we source our ingredients from only the finest producers available. It’s no coincidence that we buy from small sustainably run farms and that we demand ingredients with no artificial flavors or preservatives. Our dairies and cheese makers have pledged to use milk only from cows not treated with rBST. Because the goal of Halal food is food that’s all natural and naturally delicious.”
As you can see, I made a chicken and veggie toss with Rogan Josh original Indian recipe sauce, which was tart and tangy. I am so lazy that I simply bought a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods, chopped it into pieces and added lots of vegetables. The simmer sauce contained water, diced onion, tomato, sugar, canola oil, red bell pepper, garlic, onion juice and spices. So simple. So delicious. The chicken was about 1 ½ pounds and the vegetables, fresh, were about ½ pound and the sauce was plentiful, leaving me 3 meals for three days!
Lemongrass Basil, my favorite, has that lovely tang with tart lemon. Since I eat a lot of salmon, I placed an 8 ounce salmon filet on aluminum foil, poured 2 tablespoons of the sauce on it, salt, pepper and fresh lemon juice, and baked for 20 minutes. Delicious!
I had so much sauce left over in the package that I steamed some vegetables and asparagus and added the sauce to the saucepan. As it warmed, I could barely contain my taste buds – absolutely wonderful. And although the packets include general directions, I found that I could pour the sauces over anything including tofu, potatoes and rice, for a simple side dish.
Saffron Road Simmer Sauces can currently be found at Whole Foods. SRF also carries complete oven and/or microwavable vegetarian dishes like Manchurian Dumplings, macaroni and cheese, Thai basil chili tofu and three cheese lasagna.
