(A Tale of the Bad Grandmother Sugar Blogger and her Entrance into the Land of Less Sugar)
OK, so this is not the daring entry I usually make to my posts! BUT. When my son brings over the grand-kiddles he comes with YUCK all those generic sugar filled cereals. Isa and Milo innocently guzzle them down like gas filling the tank! Sometimes they eat 2-3 bowls at a time. I sit there and cringe, wondering if I should pad the walls of the Un-mansion as they ricochet off the sofa (what’s left of it) on their blissful sugar highs.
So when General Mills reduced the sugar in their cereals, I did a handstand and cheered (yeah, well, I suck down those generic cereals too). I read the boxes and I was so happy to see the sugar grams – way low, way cool.
This week, instead of asking Alex to pick up cereal I jumped (see all that sugar affects me too) into my little car and loaded up with 3 General Mills cereals (Cheerios, Kix and Lucky Charms).. I was so ecstatic I almost filled the gas tank with Lucky Charms! I hid the Cheerios (BAD Grandma) for me, and put the other two on the table for Isa and Milo. They loved the Kix and Lucky Charms has always been their all time favorite. The Kix is more corn oriented to taste now, and I really liked it. I tasted the cereal, not the SUGAR. I know this seems like a small, real thing (haven’t I heard that before) but I absolutely detest the amount of sugar my grandkids eat in a day. And it is hard to settle Milo down afterward.
Thanks General Mills,. I would not have known that my choice of cereal could make a difference. As a Grandma I don’t really keep up with these things, I just throw stuff in my grocery cart. I just don’t really pay attention. The sofa is now slowly recovering, the springs less creaky and the kids are on to more important things – like good health! And the car is running like a Charm (tee hee).
Right now you can get $1.00 off one of FOUR kids of General Mills cereals with a printable coupon.
