This DVD/CD combo combines the best of both worlds (sorry, Hannah I just had to use it!). Morgan Taylor is not only GORGEOUS he is the most talented singer-songwriter-illustrator I have seen or heard yet! Best graphics – best content – and by far the best vocals and lyrics. The songs follow the DVD picture book as darling little Gustafer, a very smart and crafty being from the Sun comes to Earth with his pet eel, Slimy, to adventure into the unknown. Giving a worlds eye view of those things we never look at or for, Gustafer opens our eyes and ears to the connectedness of our universe both with Mundane being Important. I was swept away by the most original and well crafted kid’s music and graphics that I have ever heard or seen. Magnificent! Totally original – puts the Simpsons to shame, without the snark! Wonderful way to show our kids their planet, the son and how very KOOL our little alien is! Perfect and unbeatable!
Songs:
A Sock Runs Through It – (this is typical Taylor – he vibes on A river Runs Through It by McClean, and takes the metaphor into his kid’s tale).
This is an acoustical masterpiece and it sets the tone for the rest of the album!
Slim Gets In ‘Em – Gustafer gets Slim into the World of the Sock! Cool, tangy voice with bluesy bunches of chords. Love the voice – love the lyrics – but the music oozes with sophisticated kid lovin’ pop stopping tunes!
Infinity – “Have you seen my sock – it goes to Infinity!” So does this song! Morgan Taylor’s voice swells from a small pocket in the sky! Thank goodness – a singer/songwriter who produces absolutely great music and cleverly crafted lyrics not just for kids, but for adults too! Words cannot describe this man’s talent!
Beehive – “Smells like butter but it tastes like a dog!” Reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkle on tour – I’m in AWE! “While other bumbles may have their day..I’ve got to see the rock show front tickets I don’t have to pay!” Raw imagination streaks into FAB lyrics with a voice that dazzles and tantalizes!
Snake Proms – “If there’s a rock that needs slithering…(Harry Potter?)..This voice, a melodic tempest, proves timpanic and COOL! Addictive, Morgan Taylor! Zylophone magic – “Snake proms make you happy” – and so does Morgan Taylor!
Cheddar – Cheese never had it so good! Singing his heart out, I find it hard to believe this is a kid’s CD – wonderful to all human and alien life forms! Sending a copy right now to ET!! Wonderful.
Wisconsin Poncho – Wisconsin Poncho full of holes – clothing made of cheese!” What better way to describe a young tattered boy? This dude carries a tune, throws it at us, tosses it up to the Sun, and it becomes a rainbow! COOLSY chic, KIDSY delight. Brought out my Inner Child, stomping her foot in manic delight. So clever and witty – I had to listen twice (A FIRST FOR ME!).
Question Marks – Folk song blues – “why these question marks all over me? Why do I want to see so much?” Gustafer’s curiosity gleans an audience with music without compare – lyrics pop from the CD to the ceiling! Joyous!
Sock of Ages – Burt Bacharach, wring your heart out! Sock of Ages – a planet in a sock, a song to break your heart. Taylor is genius. “Everything you know connects – open up your soul and let the stocking pull you through.” I AM IN LOVE! Kids, have at it!
The Sock Reprieve – Rock, rock, rock, pop! Saxophone rocks here. Not just any sax – this sax reaches down and pulls your eyes from green to blue! Vocals are Infinity!
OK, I am officially a Morgan Taylor adult groupie. Clever, witty, cute, sophisticated, wise, invincible – like John Denver as moonlit voice clusters into a galaxy! WELL DONE!
The DVD
Gustafer comes from the Sun, and Taylor’s graphics put Matisse to shame! Best graphics for kids I have ever seen – so totally, totally original! The birds, the sky, the Sun, Gustafer and Slim the Eel – presented in such color and artistry that any frame could be a painting at Sotheby’s!
Specials – (even better than the DVD)
Proof of Foof – Is Gustafer Yellowgold real? Gustafer sightings – a reknowned professor relates this hysterical special into fun, funner, funniest! As good as the DVD if not better and just plain hysterical – the Moms and Pops are going to steal this DVD from their kids!
Gustafer Guitar Lessons – Morgan Taylor you are GORGEOUS! And in this special, Morgan actually teaches the basics of the guitar and the tools used on chords. “Tune guitar to E flat!” If your child is taking guitar lessons, this is one way to passion them into practicing! Taylor is a natural.
Draw Gustafer – Again, Morgan just hits the right note! He starts with the basics and treats kids with the respect they deserve as he shows how to draw this little alien like a pro. Masterful rendition of how to learn to draw.
I can’t say enough good things about this duo of Child Creativity of a DVD and CD. You have to buy this for your child – it teaches, entertains, and amuses with such a vitality and easy joy that I will be watching it myself two or three times this afternoon. Easily one of the best “products” I have ever reviewed! THANK YOU MORGAN TAYLOR!
Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock is available at Amazon.com, the Gustafer Yellowgold site and other retailers.
