The Land of Fairies means one thing to Disney fans of all ages – magical little Tinkerbell, the fairy who with Wendy and Peter Pan and The Lost Boys to Never Never Land. But Tinkerbell – the fairy who loves to tinker and fix things – all things magical started WAY BEFORE that tale!
In this full length new animated DVD, breathtaking music and spectacular country scenes articulate the beauty and grace of the land of fairies. Some people say fairies are the realm of fantasy – others believe fairies exist. But on one very special summer day, fairies and humans meet! The sound track by the way is light and dancy and just as fanciful and magic as are our fairies!
Tink (voice of Mae Whitman) before she meets Peter! Tink and her friend arrive on a beautiful summer’s day to Fairy Camp, hidden in a large tree – so the humans won’t see them. Tink is told by all her friends that she HAS to stay hidden in Fairy Camp. “It’s like all of Pixie Hollow under one tree!” Tink exclaims when she arrives at the coolest scene a fairy could imagine! She runs into her favorite firefly Blaze when she arrives, along with bees and friends and all kinds of fairy activities. The fairies are engaged in making Queen Anne’s lace and are using a contraption that Tink invented to have bees harvest their own honey into pots. Tink keeps looking for things to fix, but nothing is broken and she starts to feel a little daunted that she can’t HELP anyone fix something. Iridessa warns Tink to STAY AWAY from the HUMAN’s HOUSE, not far away. A storm is coming, say the fairies, as they all hide under blossoms and leaves. But it’s not a storm – it’s a car with – yes! – two humans in it, a big human endologist father (voice of Michael Sheen) and his little girl, Lizzy (voice of Lauren Mote). Tink flies away to follow the car to the house, and overhears the father telling Lizzy that they are back at their summer cottage. But Tink is so amazed at the car that she HAS to find out how it works. Another fairy from the Fairy Camp, Vidia, flies down to get Tink to safety.
As her father and Lizzy go to the house a butterfly flies down. One side is painted but the other is not – the fairies did not have time to finish as they flew under cover from the storm. Lizzy is a die hard fairy fan and tells her scientist father that the fairies painted the butterfly. But her father says, “There are no fairies!” and catches the butterfly to present on his next scientific symposium. Vidia can’t fly back because Tink has gotten her all wet while trying to dismantle the car. Lizzy sets up a Fairy Cottage and dreamily goes into the house.
All of a sudden, Tink and Vidia see the Fairy House and Tink cannot walk by. She has to enter of course. Caught in the house by Lizzy, who sees her and carries her back to her room, Tink is caught. After a bout with the Kliban family cat, Mr. Twitches, Tink ends up in a bird cage. Lizzy lets her out and they begin to talk. Vidia flies back to her friends at the Fairy Camp to get help and rescue Tink.
The fairies come up with an ingenuous boat to rescue Tink! Ah, if it was only so easy. The rest of the story is as charming as the beginning and the fairies have to go all the way to London to rescue Tink.
I loved the Disney touch, as I always do. No matter how old we are or how old we get, we are all little girls when touched by the magic of Tinkerbell and her fairy friends. Disney has done it again! A magical film with astounding backdrops, not so intricate but comical plot and some of the best tunes to come out of Disney in years. I find myself believing in fairies too after watching Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue – and you will too! A not to miss Disney film for all ages with every moment a fairy tale. I also love the themes that Disney always promotes – magic is real, and so is friendship, and both remain the constants in a life filled with imagination and fun! As Tink allows Dad and Lizzy to learn and appreciate each other, the shimmering fairies also learn that humans can be just like fairies!~
