I may be 58 years old, but when faced with a screen that includes a lovable green frog, a cornball dog and a crazed rock drummer I turn into a kid all over again. Unfortunately, it had been over a decade since I had the pleasure of being that young and frankly I was worried that the worry lines were going to be permanent. Happily, I now have plenty of laugh and smile lines for my plastic surgeon to work on after seeing the long awaited return of my old friends The Muppets.
Walter a simple puppet who’s spent his life watching and wishing that he could meet the Muppets since his youth is now all grown up. Well, as a puppet he hasn’t really grown, but that’s part of the fun. Introducing a new character to this ensemble was a gamble and it paid off in multiples. I fell in love with Walter the moment he appeared on the screen next to his brother Gary (played by Jason Segal). When Gary plans a romantic getaway to Los Angeles with his long time girlfriend Mary (played by Amy Adams), Walter gets the trip of his dreams as Gary surprises him with a ticket to come along. Of course Walter wants nothing more than to visit Muppet Studios.
The three arrive at the studio to learn that not only is the theater shut down, but a nasty oil baron Tex Richman (played by Chris Cooper) has dibs on the studio (which sits atop an oil field of course). Walter sets out to gather the old Muppet gang together to raise money to purchase and revive the studio, to bring it back to it’s glory days.
The rest is kismet.
My only issue was that the previews made it seem like the movie was geared more towards adults than children. I suppose it was a sales tactic, since we were the ones who grew up with the Henson crew. Still, I forgot all of that as I experienced the joy that is The Muppets.

I am not a major Muppet fan, but my sister is. (Yeah, she's 30 & couldn't wait for this to come out.) I may have to get it for her…& maybe even watch with her!
