We all have unexplored dreams. While I had the opportunity to “go for it” as a dancer and actress, I quit performing early in my life and have always wondered “What if?”
So is it with psychiatrist Frank Gregorio (Chazz Palminteri), who always fancied being a singer. Once More with Feeling takes us into the life of a man who revisits his first love – singing. Whether it be karoke bars, bowling alleys or competitions, Frank has a NEED to get up and sing. Both father and daughter are dealing with the same feelings of needing to spread their wings and the plot weaves back and forth between their two lives.
We get to know generations of this typical Italian-American family and while some of the relationships are cliché, there are still moments of hope, dreams and relationships gone awry.
With compelling acting by Drea de Matteo (as Frank’s oldest daughter) and Maria Tucci (as his wife), and a full cast of veteran actors the potential is great. It’s just too bad that director Jeff Lipsky and screenwriter Gina O’Brien kept this film’s story trite, instead of exploring a bit more.
I almost wish that Bro’ B had watched this as I’m sure that he’d have a lot to say both about the direction and production of this film.
Once More with Feeling is available for purchase on Amazon.com and at other DVD retailers nationwide.
