Hannah Montana: The Movie
I only know of Hannah Montana because my tween grand kids adore her. I also like her music when Libby, 8, presses her IPod to my ear to hear Hannah’s latest song. And that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
With a great cast – Miley, Billy Ray, Emily Osment, Tyra Banks, Vanessa Williams and more – the movie was the usual Disney GREAT.
Miley and Lily (Emily Osment) are trying to get into Miley’s own concert, but the crowds won’t let them through. Miley is worried because her concert starts SOON and she has to change into her Hannah Montana wig and outfit. They finally make it in and Miley changes and comes out on stage. The phenomenon of Hannah Montana charges the theater. The story line is simple – Miley and Hannah are at odds in Miley’s hectic life and create havoc with her family. Hannah has a hysterical shoe fight with Tyra Banks in an upscale shoe store and misses saying goodbye to her brother Jackson on his way to college. Then she cannot make her best friend Lily’s birthday and has to arrive as Hannah Montana instead, completely ruining her best friend’s party as everyone ignore Lily to hear Hannah sing. Then she picks up a journalist – Oswald Granger from Bon Chic magazine – who hears Hannah say that she has a “secret.” Lily, mad at Hannah tells Oswald where he can find Hannah – in Crowley Corners, Tennessee.
Billy Ray, her dad, puts a stop to Hannah’s appearance at the MY Musical Awards, staged by Miley’s manager, Vanessa Williams. He forces Hannah in the car to go home to Tennessee for her grandmother’s birthday celebration, where the entire family is congregating. Miley has a fit – she has no intention of giving up her life as Hannah Montana, along with the lifestyle that goes with it.
But Billy Ray needs to get his daughter Miley back. The rest of the movie gives Miley the space to “come out” and be herself in her home town, rustic and country. She helps the town stay free from a big development mall by staging a concert, getting her “friend” Hannah Montana to stage a concert for the town. She falls in love with Travis, and realizes that she cannot be a fake to him. At the end of the concert she reveals that she and Hannah are one and the same, and her hometown, Lily, Travis and her family tell her she can be both. Billy Ray is happy he has his daughter – and her values – back. He also has a new girlfriend, Lorelei, his Mom’s ranch foreman.
Granger, at the town concert, throws away the video where Miley grabs off her Hannah Montana wig and tells everyone who she really is. He quits Bon Chic magazine and embraces that Miley as Hannah is not any one’s business but hers.
In true Disney fashion, the themes of love, family and being true to oneself are played out in this funny and poignant movie. I loved it! Now I am a true Hannah Montana fan – the songs in the video are fantastic. Miley Cyrus is a truly talented artist. A superb movie for tweens and adults alike – I am now watching it again!
