DVD Reviews & Giveaway: Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2

It’s not that I dislike anything Disney.  And to be fair, I know my 8 year old granddaughter Libby will love this movie.  So even though my thought was that this was a movie without the panache of The Dog Show this movie dribbles into saccarine fast, I will try to find things I liked about it (dubious).

What I hated the most the kids will adore.  For this movie saturates itself in cliches and stereotypes.  However, kids feel comfortable and recognize cliches and find them enduring and funny.  In the dog park, the dogs eat sushi, just like the big people do.  The human butler brings dinner to his Dog in a silver enclosed plate.  Another human fetches the balls that his sheltie “owner” pitches from a tennis ball machine.  

Now, there’s lots that is adorable in this film.  Who could shut their eyes to two newly wedded chihuahuas, who 4 months later have a litter of Rodeo Drive dressed puppies – 4 girls and one boy, Papi Junior, wearing a tam to go to the park?  The plot stalks moments of pure boredom.  The family is going to lose their house to foreclosure, the dogs will of course save the day, and then Disney throws in a bank robbery so that these cute little dogs can up the ante.

What I did like, however, were the Disney family themes.  Kindness, family loyalty at all costs, some really cute scenes of two dogs happily in love – you get my drift.  Sleeping Beauty in fur.  
HOWEVER, and this is a big HOWEVER, I know the kids will love this plotless scenario of a vulnerable and cozy little family of talking dogs and funny props.  The flavor of the movie appeals to children – Chloe (Mama Chihuahua) complains that Papi (George Lopez) doesn’t discipline the kids – he wants to be their best bud instead.  Hmmm, that’s a no brainer.  And Aunt viv and Rachel start the film by going to the rain forest on vacation and leaving the dog family with Sam, who isn’t too sure about marrying Rachel.  Then the Dog Show lends an air of fun – to save the house, the chihuahua’s will try and win the best in show, but are ousted by an evil poodle.  The person foreclosing on the house is CAT PERSON, evil personified!
Ok, enough of the torture.  I found the movie truly silly, but again, I know the kids will love it.  However, I hope all the parents in the audience slip popcorn and sodas into their backpacks ’cause this is going to be a long 85 minutes!

Blooper Faux Paws
Some very cute scenes of the Poodle getting away from its handler, scenes of Papi talking (in real dog language) to the actors, one of the puppies falling into the mud, and a newscaster blooping her lines. Quite cute.

Very nice music video that plays when Papi and Chloe get married. I like Brigit Mendler and her voice is casual but strong
