You really can never get tired of Curb. It may just be more of the same but it is always entertaining. The show has survived almost 13 years now and with another season on the way it just keeps on doing it thing. To freshen things up this season we have Larry leaving LA for New York. This seasons guests were as good as any with cameos from Michael McKean, Ricky Gervais, Bill Buckner, Michael J. Fox and even NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg.
This season has Larry’s divorce finalize while he hits the dating scene. His friends employ Larry as a “Social Assassian” and by the time he is let loose in NY he manages to piss everyone off.
David is a hero for our times, a self-deprecating Jew seemingly at odds with the rest of the human race, regardless of creed, religion or gender. He is not afraid to take on Girl Scouts or Ricky Gervais.
Ricky Gervais’s run on this show has to be one of my favorite turns of Curb’s history. Larry David and Ricky Gervais’s awkward comedic styling work wonders together. Thanks to a seemingly unique agreement with HBO (as revealed by Weide in a recent BBC interview), David has carte blanche to produce as many seasons of Curb as he wishes.
This DVD offers very little in the way of special features. There is only “Leon’s Guide to New York City,” and a nearly 90 minute round table discussion with David, Hines, Garlin, and Essman, hosted by Brian Williams. The discussion is entertaining, especially for long time fans of the show.
Overall, this was a great season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The writing and acting is as sharp as ever. I hope the show runs forever.
