Crooked Arrows 

Sports films, hells yes, bring it on. 

It’s really hard not to get wrapped up in sports films.  Underdog stories about sports really get me going, I love cheering for the underdog and by the end of the feature I’m usually yelling at the screen.  Maybe this is because my father and I used to watch Rocky all the time.  I’ve never played lacrosse so I doubted how much I was going to like Crooked Arrows.

But first a Synopsis!

A mixed-blood Native American, Joe Logan, eager to modernize his reservation, must first prove himself to his father, the traditionalist Tribal Chairman, by rediscovering his spirit. He is tasked with coaching the reservations high school lacrosse team which competes against the better equipped and better trained players of the elite Prep School League.  Joe inspires the Native American boys and teaches them the true meaning of tribal pride. Ignited by their heritage and believing in their new-found potential, coach and team climb an uphill battle to the state championship finals against their privileged prep school rivals. Will they win?

Holy crap did this movie suck. 

I really don’t know what to crush first because I found it really hard to find anything about this movie I didn’t hate.  I know that these are strong words but I don’t care.  This movie was more poorly produced than Ernest goes to camp.  The acting was bad, the direction was bad, the sets were horrible, and the cinematography was bad, the only thing good that I can say about this movie is that it stuck to the formula.

However an 8 year old me would have had a chance at liking this film just because you can get wrapped up in the formula.  None of the character except for the coach has a lasting identity.

The production value is lower than that of a Lifetime movie.  We are shown one corny set piece after another and then get stock character after stock character.  The special features of the disc also left a lot to be desired.

Overall, I can only recommend this film to people whom are very big lacrosse fans.  Otherwise if you want sport related drama of any kind, there are so many better movies to pick from.
