Was I kinda psyched to see ATM? Yes. Why you ask? The cast. What was holding me back? I’m not entirely sold on the whole single location horror/thriller thing. Buried was great, but it takes a lot to pull it off. These sort of thrillers/horror movies set mostly at one location, are somewhat popular now days and I know why they are so popular, small budgets, short shoots, and control of the set. However the cast is great. We have Josh Peck playing the asshole, Alice Eve playing the hot girl and Brian Geraghty playing the good guy. A simple setup.
While attending an office Christmas party, David (Brian Geraghty) offers to drive his co-worker, Emily (Alice Eve), home. Reluctantly, he allows his friend Corey (Josh Peck) to accompany them. On the car ride, Corey asks David to pull up at a local ATM. Corey and David enter the ATM to withdraw money, and shortly after, Emily joins them. When the three are about to leave, they turn to see a hooded figure lurking outside. Dum dum dum.
So was it a good movie? Hell no. This sucked. With some exceptions.
I love Josh Peck. His delivery is fantastic. I can watch him in anything. Here he plays the asshole friend to the T. But that’s about it for the good so lets just resume the whipping.
The script is idiotic with its three characters behaving so ridiculously that you end up rooting for their demise instead. Indeed, there are so many moments where you’re bound to go ‘now why did they do that’ or ‘now why didn’t they just do that’, which of course does little to convince of the plausibility of the entire setup. And if it proves to be entertaining, it only manages to be so for all the wrong reasons.
The Blu-Ray looks and sounds great. Thankfully there is a lack of special features here, only a brief making of feature that just pats itself on the back.
All in all this movie made me want to put my head through the screen of an atm. The film’s only redeeming qualities are Alice Eve’s hotness and Josh Peck’s delivery, both of are amazing. Unfortunately, that does not make up for a crap movie.
ATM can be picked up at Amazon.com and other retailers.
