Jamie Broza
“Jamie Broza credits his family’s rescue dog, Dusty, as his muse for “I Want a Dog! Called the Stevie Ray Vaughn of folk rock, he has been compared to Bruce Springsteen, Gordon Lightfoot and Jackson Browne.”
This CD features Jamie Broza vocals along with his daughter, Carmen and a visit by his cousin David Broza. With a bossa nova/Latin/folk rhythm, there are songs and adorable “banter” chatties with Jamie’s laid back croonsy voice and runs 41 minutes.
The album is funny, whimsical and totally KID. The songs are:
- I Like Dogs
- I Want a Dog!
- Waters of March
- Turn That Phone Off
- Three Blind Mice
- Guatemala
- New School
- Difficult Friends
- Birthday Parties Always End in Tears
- The No Game
- My Work is Never Done
- Lost Cat
- Where’s Charlie?
- Monster Voice
- Trick or Treat
- Choo Choo Train
- Sisters
“The album’s third track, Jobim’s classic “Waters of March,” sets the pace for the rest of I Want a Dog! With an elegant Brazilian/Latin sound that artistically pulls together the CD in fine style. “Waters of March” is the only cover on I Want a Dog! And provides an excellent vehicle for a conversational vocal duet between Jamie and his daughter Carmen.”
Cats are also caught in the circularity of the track, and two cat songs are included.
My take? I loved it! The juxtaposition of vocals against true kid songs made the CD fast, quick and so whimsical! Three Blind Mice has the three mice talking amongst themselves, and it is hilarious. Turn That Phone Off is typical kid, with a smart message to moms:
“Hey Mom, get off of the phone, Mom!
…kids chorus…
Pay some attention to me!
For all those techno carrying moms, texting on their phones while driving their kids, bossa nova tunes carry a child’s plea: “turn that phone off when you are driving me!”
Jamie’s voice, smooth and cosmopolitan, partners with hootchy kootchy guitar strings that vibrate like the call of the wild! Real kid worries, real kid thoughts combined with a great voice and into the stratosphere instrumentals– how could you get any better than that? I SO loved Turn Off the Phone, and the short vocal Three Blind Mice. Guatemala has wonderful guitar instrumentals along with David Broza, the Israeli superstar, and Jamie’s cousin – every song outdoes the next!
Jamie Broza slams us with an artistic CD that reveals our kids concerns in a jazzy style with vocal excerpts that dazzle. What kid doesn’t want a dog? Come on Mom, get off the phone and call the rescue center – and let’s GET A DOG! (OR A CAT!!) And after all – what kid can’t live without “I WANT A DOG!”??
I Want a Dog is available from Good Mood Records.
