There are how-to books for plumbing, sewing, cooking, and even sex (remember The Joy of Sex???). Why, has there not been (until now) a manual about YOU? I mean when you think of it, as humans we are the most complicated species on the planet. Other than biology class (which I slept through in school), what do we know about the inner workings of US?
Your Body: The Missing Manual does just that. When reading this book, I was amazed at just how much about myself that I DIDN’T KNOW.
This is NOT a mere science book mind you. Yes, each chapter does cover the biology of your body from your skin and outer body all the way to sex and death, but it ALSO covers how-to’s including diet, beauty, health.
From understanding what makes us work, to practical ways to IMPROVE what we were given, this book is a guidebook that you’ll want to reference for the rest of your life.
I found it interesting that it even tackled those questions that I’ve always wanted answered, like “Why doesn’t travelers diarrhea hit people who live in the area?”
This book also includes notes of interest, like “Strong spices likely evolved as a way to kill bacteria and disguise the off-flavors of rancid food…..”
As an adult who has not really delved into my own body, I found this manual to be fascinating. Everything is laid out in lay terms and Matthew MacDonald explains everything with ease. This is a reference book that I’ll be keeping handing for a VERY long time.
