Woman’s Way Home – Navigating Your Path to Embodied Power
Author: Leela Francis
When I saw the title of this book, my first thought was ‘here we go another New Age let’s get empowered book.’ Fortunately, that is not the case. For Lella Francis writes a crisp, intelligent and knowledgeable book that reveals our disconnections from ourselves in a vibrant, readable way.
“We have spent so much time living up to other people’s and society’s standards that we’ve almost completely disconnected from our own deepest and authentic truth. If there is anything that is at the root of the rampant depression, poor health and lack of fulfillment experienced by so many women, it is this one startling and unfortunate reality: We chronically dishonor our truth and ourselves.”
Immediately, Francis had me hooked.
So many times I catch myself lying to someone about – everything – and yet I am a person who is sometimes unbearably honest. Why? Because I don’t want the conflict of the truth, the coldness of ‘not being liked’, the brutal isolation of being honest to myself. And in this book, Francis gently and unwaveringly tells us how to become just who we are, which we all know how to do: we simply don’t do it. I don’t like being a martyr, a victim or a sufferer, and neither do my friends.
Francis discusses the dimensions of living vividly, centers, textures and lenses as she calls them. She calls it the Vividly Woman System of Somatic Awakening; I call it getting a supportive group together and learning how to know our bodies and how we feel when we feel it and listening.
“Facing the truth and our responsibility for it reduces our tolerance for story and the suffering story causes.”
I simply ‘got’ everything Francis was saying.
I know myself that I trade my own integrity for other things: acceptance, money, a job I hate that stresses me to the max, and my own collusion to stay – to keep things the way they are. Francis does not make any bones about it. Sometimes it means turning your life upside down.
This is an intelligent book written by a woman who knows what she is doing. I loved reading it, and every page pinged the truth to me – right in my face! Thanks Ms. Francis for an empowering book that every woman should keep by her bedside! With her whole self in the bed.
