Granny’s No Angel
Author: Ciara Threadgoode
In her second novel following The Second Diary, Threadgoode’s heroine, Dottie, or Granny as she is known to her granddaughter Cherry, has died and been buried in Truckee, California. As Cherry reveals the last three pages of Granny’s diary, and as the reading of the will changes all of their lives, we scamper like mice to keep up with the goings on in Truckee, California and Granny’s after life desire to right all the wrongs of her family and mend all of their hearts. With the same hilarious and poignant characters, Threadgoode recreates the tension of The Second Diary as suddenly Cherry starts seeing Granny sitting in her kitchen with her and drinking tea. Why is Granny back and how come Cherry is the only one who can see her?
Cherry stays awake night after night having the same recurring and terrifying nightmare and a month later Granny appears to Cherry as a ghost. Suddenly the family is in turmoil as Granny starts to reveal some strange and odd truths: it seems that Cherry’s mother, Peggy, had an affair with a man named Dustin and three of her children are products of the affair. And Dustin suddenly appears wanting to be the father he never was. Then Heather (Cherry’s sister) has a kidnapping: someone has kidnapped her son Jaxby, and Heather suspects her husband is involved. Cherry and Gene acquire a Chihuahua to go with their six dachshunds. With a plot that twists and twirls us around and about, like a veritable roller coaster, we are assured by Cherry that everything will end up ok: Granny has told her. Creative and absolutely loony, this is the most interesting family that has ever existed!
As Granny works her magic, and this absurdly dysfunctional family starts to right their wrongs and reconnect, we delight in their antics. As Threadgoode presents this delightful family with all their problems and issues, we sit back and laugh like baboons at the antics of Granny’s ghost and Cherry and Gene her husband. And at the end…oops I won’t spill the beans, but guess what! Another diary has been discovered written by…well you have to buy the book to discover that!
Granny’s No Angel is as delightful and entertaining as the first novel in the series, The Second Diary.
Witty, clever and simply life affirming, Threadgoode has worked her small town magic again, and this second in the series is as good, if not better, as the first.
Don’t miss out as Granny and her family return with writing that delights and a plot that has you laughing out loud! This is one novel you simply have to read to the end, and then you want to read it again.
Wonderful, Ms. Threadgoode: when can we expect the third in the series?
I am posted at Amazon…waiting!
