All bets are off. Ned Mahoney and Alex Cross decide to ignore orders and find the children. When First Lady Regina Coyle requests a personal meeting with Alex, she pleads: Find my children.

Simultaneously, Dr. Hala and Tariq Al Dossari of The Family (Al Ayla) have poisoned the water supply at one of the DC reservoirs. People are dying.

When Al Ayla kills Secretary of State Martin Cho in an explosion of his entourage, the hunt is on. But Hala is an assassin, and the Al Ayla is well organized. Finally, the FBI and Alex get an insider from Al Ayla who informs them of the next targets – the President’s successors are targeted to die.

Still, Cross and his MPD partner John Sampson, as well as FBI agent Ned Mahoney are searching for the children. Alex discovers a text to Zoe the morning of the abduction, and he figures out who the kidnapper is. As the US agencies all fight to stop Al Ayla, Cross and Mahoney work on all aspects of the two separate cases.

Fast, staccato paced, with action galore, Alex is targeted, as the kill by the madman kidnapper. At home, Nana Mama takes in an orphan off of the streets. The President and First Lady Coyle grive their children, and the FBI, CIA, and MPD wonder if they can stop Al Ayla from bringing the city to its knees.
