I love Judge Deborah Knott.  So when I picked up Christmas Mourning, I expected an aspiring first chapter.  However, like reading someone else’s mail stating that they had won the lottery, I felt disappointed with the rather slow – and forced – dialogue.  I loved Margaret Maron’s Sand Sharks, so I didn’t tear up the letter yet.
I read to Chapter Six and still could not envision much in the way of dire plot – or points of character interest.  Perhaps Margaret Maron was having a bad day, perhaps I was too.  However, I usually give a novel 6 chapters and then the death knell, but for some reason I kept reading.
Finally, I gave up.  I am light in character and impatient with the perhaps one or two novels I haven’t been able to bond with in the time I’ve been with the Review Broads.  AND this could just be me.  I like fast paced prose with a hint of banter and intelligence, a plot that drives like that proverbial silver bullet.  I am sure that there are many Judge Deborah Knott fans out there who would enjoy this novel more than I did.
