Black Light emanates fright. A huge beam of a novel, flashing into the realm of the dead, undead, and walking shadows of human evil and good, Black Light shimmers with ghostly horror.

While “Ghostbusters” proved amusing, Black Light sleeks itself in foreboding and danger. From page one, this novel trips the light fantastic, and fills the reader with a plot that tangles us, twists us, and delights in dropping us into its own pages, like the down trip of a gigantic roller coaster – with no brakes.

Buck Carlsbad has a past – a childhood he can’t remember – two dead gifted parents – and he’s seeking the truth about his strange abilities and the life he leads. Who killed his parents, where are they buried – AND WHY were they killed. AND – BY WHOM?

Buck has the Pull. When Buck inhales an evil ghost, and ingests it into the Pull deep inside him, he can see into the Black Light, the world of the dead. And he must go to the Black Light to retrieve objects his parents have left behind to try to find them. Buck tracks ghosts with evil pasts, inhales them, and drinks a potion to regurgitate them into silver urns, which he buries. Only silver contains the evil spirits, and the spirits must be buried to return to the world of the dead. Buck also has a Watcher, named Darby, a gangbanger he killed who was known as “Crazy-D.” Darby is part dead, level one human, and if Buck dies, he dies. Then there’s Tom, another ghost catcher with the Pull, and Roosevelt (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) who is a computer whiz who is Buck’s protégé.

When Jaeger Industries offers Buck a job of spiriting spirits on the launch of the new supersonic train going from LA to Las Vegas, Nevada at speeds over 400 miles per hour, Buck accepts the job, only because it will bring him through the desert at the point where he has tracked his parents last steps. The point is called the Black Triangle, where all the worst and most evil spirits converge. But Buck is on a train that defies gravity and this affects his Pull – and he has never had to protect passengers from so many evil spirits at once. Buck, on the trail of the Truth, signs on as a consultant on the inaugural ride of the train, which will be carrying politicians, celebrities, and press – all high profile people. The next President of the United States, Bob Maxton, is on the train, along with 38 others, including guards and secret service agents. Only Mr., Jaeger stays behind.

Tom and Roosevelt assist Buck on the ride – but Darby refuses to go. Too dangerous, says Darby, who senses overwhelming odds against Buck and his friends.

A touring meteor, heading right between our heads, Black Light spears through its fantastical plot, sparks flying. A wonderful read due to the three authors’ talent at writing and creating a world that might seem ridiculous, except that it seems so real. Amazing novel, and one not to miss. Melton, Dunston, and Romano are the writers of The Saw franchise, and they use every talent to frighten us into believing in Buck Carlsbad!
