Fat Girl Walking
Author: Brittany Gibbons AKA Brittany Herself
(Sex, Food, Love and Being Comfortable in Your Skin Every Inch of It)
I’m still laughing.
Brittany Gibbons has welded together an enormously funny, enormously courageous book about The Truth about Imperfect People or Women to be Exact Who Do Not Fit into a Size 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 or Maybe Even Higher and Still Live the Good Life. Ms. Gibbons puts her own face on the absurd adulation of the mesomorph body structure of women in the United States as she swings and models in a size 22, 175-250 pound body of sheer curves. As Brittany tunes us in to the tango of bullying as a kid because she did not fit into the THIN GROOVE, bullying as a teenager, and snorts as an adult, she decided to make her weight a statement. For Brittany is simply stunning and is an advocate for women everywhere to be themselves and to love themselves – and their bodies. No matter the size.
Yes, we have heard it a million times.
But do we really HEAR it? I can remember my mom dropping me off to my first and only school dance. I hid in the bathroom the entire night. I was perspiring heavily and at 15 I had no idea what deodorant was. I was dressed in one of my mother’s strapless evening gowns, with no bra, and I was (YUP) fat. That was the last dance I EVER went to. I happened to grow out of my size 16, 150 pound teenager-dom but I will never forgot the shame and humiliation I felt when other kids made fun of me about my weight and height. It still hurts. And I am that overweight kid even now.
Well, Fat Girl Walking is like talking to your bestie about all those things you are ashamed to talk about! Brittany tells it all and tells it with truth and hysterical anecdotes. As she runs through her amazing marriage and she and her husband tackle everything with Brittany’s amazing sense of beauty and passion, we are breathless waiting for the next page, the next chapter.
One of the best books I have ever read on How to Be Imperfectly Human and Believe Yourself Into Beauty and Fame, Brittany’s journey conjures up her courage, her compassion and her brilliance as she advocates for females everywhere just be being herself! Through texts to her husband, tales of summer camp counseling, her blog, her online group, even stripping to show people that her body is beautiful, I couldn’t wait to follow her on her blog, www.brittanyherself.com.
Amazing story, amazing book, amazing woman!
