Despite terrible writing and a formula plot, this book did its’ job. I finished reading it. That’s the good news.
In 1982 Ocean Bay, Massachusetts, teenager Holly jumps from Twilight Towers. Grown up now, her best friend Michelle has quit her teaching job to become an ice cream girl on a bicycle. Michelle can’t stop seeing Holly in her dreams. Michelle’s husband Rick begins to notice Michelle’s strange behavior. Megan, a new detective who now lives at Twilight Tower, is a customer of Michelle’s (she gets the Starburst ice cream) and becomes involved when Michelle turns herself in to the police stating that in a drug haze, she pushed Holly off the Towers. Hallucinations? Memories? Megan has her own secret about another death in her own past. She relates to Holly and forces Holly to be hypnotized by Dunn, an investigative hypnotist. Dunn needs to find out the truth about the twenty year old accident – or murder.
As “82 Mystery” continues, Michelle, Megan, Rick and Dunn discover the truth. Rick ends up a hero. Dunn and Megan become a team. That’s about it. I could have used another 200 pages to flesh out the story, which seemed skeletal to me. It was so short that none of the characters every came out of the pages. I have to give R.M. Wood credit for getting it published.
