A wonderful tome on not only the life of Shakespeare but a history of Shakespeare and his influence in Europe and North America, Dickson’s Worlds Elsewhere fascinates, educates and illuminates our fascination and love of Shakespeare and his plays.  Through four continents and 400 years, Dickson illuminates Shakespeare’s own love of travel and foreignness while he gives us Shakespeare as the Accidental Tourist across the world.

From England in the 1600s to today’s China, Shakespeare is beloved and his plays are still as current today as then.  Nazi Germany considered Shakespeare as a German; Bollywood did the same; and Europe has constantly loved the Bard as their own.

Worlds Elsewhere gives a rendition of Shakespeare, his works and the history of his global appearances in chapters that read like prose!

This book is no boring history; instead it charms us and delights and presents a well informed and wonderful journey of how Shakespeare has translated into a global event across the world.  Definitely different, intriguing and easy to read, I could not contain wanting to read the entire book at once; but I had to go slowly to take in all the new information that was both revelatory and fascinating!
