Every day we are bombarded by negative images and stories that make you wonder how good the world is. We rarely see anything about the good things that go on, especially the little things, but they do happen. That is why it is important to do your bit to make the world a better place. There are things that you can do to look after the environment and other things that you can do to cheer people up. It doesn’t have to take a lot of effort, anything that you can do will help to make the world a little bit better:
Compliment people
Complimenting people doesn’t take up any of your time, and it doesn’t cost you any money. It does, however, make the other person feel great. Compliment your friends and family, but also strangers. If you see someone at the bus stop with a coat you like, tell them. If someone has cool make-up, let them know. Don’t worry about it being awkward; it is bound to make them smile. Take the time to spread a little kindness.
Buy second hand
The fashion industry produces a lot of pollution and landfill due to fast fashion. So much clothing gets thrown away every year when it could be worn again. That is why it is a good idea to try and shop for some of your clothes second hand. It might not be viable to buy everything second hand, but reducing the number of things that you buy new will still help the environment. And the chances are, if you find something in a second-hand shop, it is more likely to be unique!
Use less plastic
Just like fast fashion, the overuse of plastic is bad for the environment. Although you may not think it will make a difference if you cut down, if everyone starts to cut down, it will make a huge difference. Try to buy loose fruit and vegetables and get a reusable water bottle. You can even purchase reusable travel mugs and take them into coffee shops when you want a hot drink.
Donate unwanted items
If you have any items of clothing, furniture, toys or anything else that you don’t want, consider giving them to a charity shop before you throw them away. If you throw items away, they will end up in landfill never to be used again. However, if the thing is still in good condition, you can extend its life by giving someone else the chance to own it.
Use your hobbies to help people
There are ways that your hobbies can help people. If you like to crochet, you could crochet baby hats for the local hospital. If you have a hobby that can be used to help people, you could try to utilize it.
Stay Inspired
Sometimes it can be hard to stay inspired to do good things, especially if all you see is negative news stories. But that doesn’t mean you should give up. Read affirmations and listen to stories about different ways of promoting peace. There are plenty of things out there that can help you to stay inspired.
