We ALL grew up on Bambi; our children grew up on Bambi; and now our grandchildren are growing up – on Bambi II. The beloved and brave little fawn, the little Prince of the Forest, who loses his mother as a baby, is part of us. In Bambi, we rejoice in Bambi’s first steps, in his newly found friends, Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, and Faline, the little doe he falls in love with. And Owl, the wise elder. In Bambi, we experience birth and rebirth of the fawn, with all his joys and losses. Bambi reflects all of our deepest wishes for our own children.

Bambi II brings us back, beginning where Bambi has lost his mother, and his father, the Great Prince, proves ambivalent about caring for his son. Because the Great Prince puts his duties of caring for his herd first, he resents the care that a tiny fawn requires. As Bambi’s loss for his mother shadows the loss his father feels for her also, it is with joy that we see father and son blend into a family unit.

When Bambi re-meets Faline (his love) and fights Ronno, an obnoxious fawn that bullies everyone and wants Faline for his own, Bambi shows his father his own style of courage and compassion.

A coming of age story about one of our favorite Disney characters, Bambi II continues the story of the brave and joyous little fawn and his life in the forest. The lessons of love, family, friends, hardship and growing up entwine in our hearts with the beauty of the forest.

Brian Pimental has done an amazing job directing Bambi II. Well done Disney – as always! A not to miss film for kids and adults alike!

I always love the specials – they are small vignettes of fun for kids. Sing the Day feels like a sunrise!
