Increasing Your Active Hours

If you have been making an effort to get you and your family outside more, you might find that you run out of ideas from time to time. The local parks are a lot of fun, but much of what makes the great outdoors so much fun is the ability to explore new places. The chances are that you personally also want to work on your own activity levels too.

So, if you are ready to up your activity and feel more energized, here is a range of ideas for you.

New Place

If you head to the same nature reserve week after week, you will quickly fall into the routine of the same amount of steps. Stopping in the same place and being there for the same amount of time. Once we get used to a place, we get comfortable there. So one of the best ways to increase your activity is to go somewhere new. Pick somewhere on a map that means you’ll need to get up a little earlier to go there. Just remember that when you are driving somewhere new, you won’t be as aware of twists and turns in the road. While you should drive carefully, it pays to know injury lawyers who make a difference if anything should happen.

Goals

You can all set goals about what you want to achieve during the month. It might be that you all want to make it to the top of the most prominent hill in the area. Or that you want to go around the most extensive park at least three times before going back to the car. You can also set personal goals too. Like ensuring that you get out of the house for a walk at least once a week and three times when possible.

Classes

Most cities have a range of activities that are aimed at getting families more active. They typically have sports, walking, climbing, and other fun things to do. See if you can find some that everyone will enjoy. If you have time in the evenings, you can head to a local class too. If you want something low impact, then yoga or Tai Chi are the perfect starting points. If you are very social, then you should try team sports like football, rugby or hockey.

Compete

If you know people outside of your family that also want to increase their steps per day, then you should both invest in a FitBit or similar. Follow all of the instructions and hook the Fitbit up to your mobile phone for tracking. There is a setting that you can share the activity and take part in competitions too. This can be a great motivator on days when you don’t feel like heading out.

Write It Down

You don’t have to post everything you do on your social media, but you might like to keep a diary of all of the activities you do in the week. This gives you a sense of achievement too, which will encourage you to continue.
