by Christopher Wicks
I remember as a small child waking up to the waft of my mother’s perfume (always Chanel No. 5). Somehow, she did perfume as she did all things: with elegance, grace and a whiff of femininity that has never left me.
I, however, have my own personal taste, and I like a touch of musk and vanilla in my scent. And my perfume is English Laundry No. 7. I love the softness and silkiness of the scent, which is mildly fruity and caressing, not too strong, not too weak. To me, English Laundry lingers for just that moment in time when you want to speak of yourself elegantly and quietly: that is just my style.
Since Christmas and the holidays are just around the corner, The Review Broads suggests English Laundry as a Must Have on your favorite woman’s wrist. Watch out, however; even Grande dames love this scent! And Diva’s have been known to grab it off of Nordstrom’s counter with a swish and a sway as they leave the store! I don’t know what Broad Z wears. But for me, English Laundry is top on my Christmas List, whether I feel naughty – or nice!
From the English Laundry Web Site:
Pretty, Delicious & Enchanting. No7 for women includes top notes of sparkling pear, jasmine, melon and apricot. Gardenia, blooming jasmine and toasted almonds are composed together as the middle notes. Adding beautiful depth to this fragrance, sandalwood, vanilla créme and musk are added to the base notes.
Christopher Wicks is the designer and creator of all things English Laundry. He was born a child of the Sixties in Manchester, England. In his early years, he found solace sketching shirts, shoes and guitars. What began as a pre-teen pastime, however, became a lifelong career in designing men’s and women’s apparel and home interiors.
His first full-time design opportunity came at the age of 22, when he became a designer of men’s formal shirts for one of England’s largest gentlemen’s shirt manufacturers. The passion for stripes, collar shapes, pearl buttons and French cuffs that he gained during these early years has stayed with him throughout his career, which eventually led him away from gentlemen’s apparel to the more in-demand realm of sportswear.
Fragrance for both men and women.
- Captivating Oxford Bleu features a mint and citrus aroma with base notes of iris, vetiver and oak moss.
- Don’t let the cheeky name fool you, Arrogant impresses with fresh notes of bergamot, lavender and coriander.
- Notting Hill is an enticing scent with nuances of bergamot, lemon, and lime. Called “an instant classic that will stand the test of time.”
- Inspired by country gardens, English Rose features traces of white chocolate and rich, floral notes with a woodsy finish.
- Bright and fruity, No 7 hints at pear, jasmine, melon, and apricot, yet stays grounded with a subtle nod toward more masculine musks.
